Spearman is the cheap anti-cavalry troop and the start of the Pikeman line. A September 19 patch note quoted in later roundups says spear squad size went from 24 to 28. That figure is from the quoted record, not a re-test.

How do you use Spearman?
Face it toward enemy riders. Charge cavalry with it. Do not use it as your only troop into a shield wall. It can evolve to Pikeman, and Update 3 coverage adds Phalangite as a further branch.
